Hello BiggerPockets,

I came across this AirBnB listing for a Airstream in Malibu, and there are 44 other "Camper"  rentals in the same general area:

My question is, can I buy a piece of land and put an Airstream/RV/House on wheels on the property? Or is the listing above technically illegal? I have a dream of buying some nice ocean view land and putting something like this on there:

What would a realistic time frame be to get the permits from the Malibu Coastal Commission? 2-3 years?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My original goal was to buy a duplex and live in one rent the other... but then I learned about rent control. All the buildings in my price range were built before 1978, so I'm thinking about changing strategy.

I'm now focusing on getting a great deal on a SFR and after a few years get a LOC on the house that would pay for the construction of a 2bd/2ba unit in the back, which would not be subject to rent control. There is pro's and cons with both situations, but that's where I'm at now.

Hi everyone,

I recently got approved for 375k, and I was looking to buy something in LA. If I wanted to eventually leverage this property to buy another, should I look to spend the maximum amount I'm allotted?

For some background info I plan on staying in the area and would be using a part of my home as an office, so it may have some tax benefits I should consider.

Any help would be really appreciated!

@Manolo D. I'm thinking about buying a SFR and building another unit in the back. I've heard estimates of $130-$200 per sq/ft... is that correct in your opinion?
