Hi Trey, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. My best friend from college just had a brain cancer diagnosis 3 months ago and is now down here at Duke for chemo/radiation. I hope your mom has a good prognosis and that you all get as much time together as possible in the coming years.

 Thanks very much for the welcome, @Dmitriy Fomichenko and @John Mathewson. I've been through the beginner's guide and appreciate the tip on using keywords.

@Ethan Atkinson, leaving was not our plan, but such are the vagaries of the academic job market. In a sense, coming here is the best way for my wife to find her way back to UGA if that is what we want. In the meantime, I'm hoping any skills I pick up here are transferrable!

Hello BP! I've just joined and am already so grateful for the generosity and wisdom of this community. We recently moved from Athens, GA to Urbana and are looking for our primary residence. Since I left my old job to move here (my wife is at the university), this seemed like a good opportunity to explore REI, something I'd thought a lot about but never been in a position to get into.

I've already been digging into the wealth of resources here. I'd like to do some combination of fix and holds with fix and flips and possibly get into some multi family properties. But mostly I'm looking to learn and find that first deal to get started.
