Thank you

@Eric Pinter - our current accountant was retiring - and we have set up a meeting already next week with someone else to evaluate.  I just finished reading a book on Tax Strategies for Real Estate which really helped me decide the types of things to ask our new accountant (well potential).  Legal and taxes are definitely separate things - I'm not sure how knowledgable our attorney is so we will also have to evaluate him as we move forward.

@Heber Gonzalez re LLC

I had originally just typed in LLC in the search bar and found a recent string in a forum titled LLC?

Essentially lots of good debate about whether you need an attorney and things like LLC or insurance. If I knew how to link to the forum conversation I would. I think it was posted by Walter Key. I found useful info from @Matthew Kreitzer, @Jeff Rabinowitz and @Graham Parham. From reading the posts I understand why our accountant (on his last day before retiring) said don't bother and now have follow-up questions for our new accountant. If we decide to go the LLC route we'll probably consult with an attorney versus online just to ensure we understand the requirements/ our options

Looks like there are several blogs on LLC versus Insurnace as well that I'm going to go read.

@Robert Norvell - WPS !! 'Nuf said.

@Colley Bailey - Really good to know!  We are working thru getting our funds, choosing our bank and determining the base criteria to help us determine the deals which will work for us.  Thanks a lot for the offer - we may well take you up on that!

Wow- So glad to hear from you all!

@Heber Gonzalez - I couldn't agree more - getting to know others and learning are going to be a key for us.

@Dave Visaya and @Jill DeWit- Thank you for the warm welcome. I am actively trying to learn the different forums and how to navigate the site. Just had a question on LLC or not and there are sure a lot of posts AND opinions on that!

We are brand new to real estate investing and trying to learn as much as we can.   We have mostly invested in stocks and are looking to diversify / build passive income.  We are predominantly interested in buy and hold / rental properties.  However, we may also be interested in flipping once we gain experience.
