Ken,

Things to consider:

- Social Life - If your into night life or sporting events you might be better served being in the city.  While most suburbs have night life it is generally pretty limited.

- Own a car? - Parking in the city can be difficult/impossible and/or expensive if you have to pay to park.

- Don't mind commuting - Some of the more popular suburbs like Naperville require a 1 hour train ride to your office.

- Weather - Having lived in both Dallas and Chicago I can tell you that the weather conditions in Chicago can range from abysmal to armageddon in the winter.  Plan your housing accordingly.

Thanks all! Yes, a "ridiculously priced fixer upper" in Central Austin would be more than sufficient.

Hello BP members,

I've been working in commercial real estate for a few years but hoping to leave the grind of big corporate and work for myself.

My experience includes 10 years of selling large corporate data center space and I have also bought and sold 6 homes for my own personal use.

I look forward to gaining insight from others who are walking along the same path. (A low price home in central Austin would also be nice!) My goal is to make just enough to get by on until retirement.

Thank you,

Kevin
