Hey @Chase Fraser thanks so much for the insightful response. I value your opinion and many others on bigger pockets because with no real experience yet, I can only really go off of people who have had experience. Thanks again for your time.

Thank you all for your insightful responses! I do agree with you @James Galla and @Andrew Briggs in that "house hacking" might be the best way for me to get started and gain some experience. My plan was to start out with rental properties by getting an FHA loan but the question was rather to start now or later. I've been working a "w-2" job for about 5 months now so I do not know what I would qualify for currently @Karen Rittenhouse but I could look into that. Although it does scare me a bit to take out more loans when my student loans are staring me down. @Chace Fraser I do like the sound of that "Rich Dad Poor Dad" approach although house hacking might leave me little positive cash flow unless I get a killer deal quadruplex. At the end of the day though, are you all recommending that I pay a lower amount on my loans (extending the payoff period) to save up for my first investment? I feel like I am ready mentally but not so much financially for an investment. I've listened to many audio books and podcasts to the point where I feel like the best way to really learn more is to jump in.

I recently graduated college and have am eager to get started in real estate. I would like to focus primarily on rental properties for a long term steady ROI. Unfortunately I have 55k in student loans with 5.7% interest at the moment. I made a plan to pay them off within 4 years but I will leave me little room to save for my first property. Should I pay off my loans before investing or pay less towards loans and save for my first property?
