Take a look at the On-Line course. That way you and your wife can study together. If you need the class room environment you will need to find a Real Estate School in your area.

I was an Investor before I received my RE licence, so it is not necessary to have one before you start Investing. It is very valuable when you have a licence because it keeps you in this business. The resources you have are a big advantage. Keep in mind that Realtors think very differently then Investors. You will find most Realtor don't like Investor. And Investor don't like Realtors. Those of us that are Investors and have an RE licence don't have that little guy mentality.
