@Mark Johnston did you ever find a contractor in Deerfield?

My Understanding is that in Anne Arundel County you have to be on 14,000 ft.² or more, also the Inlaw suite has to be under the same roof, meaning it can’t be a room over the garage etc. I never pursued this as my primary is only on 5,000.  Now my place of work went out of biz so I’m going to rent my primary and move to Fl. (I have fam there, will be scouting Multi-Fam to house hack)

@Hai Loc Thanks! The opportunity fell through, but you gave me some good things to consider!

I'm considering moving from my SFH to a SFH split foyer w/ separate entrance in-law suite. I'd then house hack renting the in-law out as well as house I'm moving from.

How do I run numbers to ensure this is worthwhile compared to doing something else?

Current house $2100/mo mortgage (8years left); should rent for $2200-$2500

Moving to place that’s $440k; 5% down conventional renting in-law for $1200-$1500; mortgage should be about $2600

I can provide any other numbers/factors/variables to help get feedback.

Thanks in advance!

@Tracy DeVore Welcome! Annapolis here. My Wife and I have 3 OOS and we are working on 2 locally (Arnold/Annapolis). I’m certainly interested in a conversation with you and others. I have yet to attend a meet.

@Ned Carey with the attorneys you recommended, would they be able to assist with questions in Anne Arundel County? I'm trying to figure out the options of renting my basement (split level primary residence) It is not on 1/3 of an acre so I'm not sure what workaround options I may have regarding an ADU... thank you

@Andrew Michael could you please refer an attorney for the Maryland area, specifically Anne Arundel County? Thank you… I’m trying to figure out if I can convert my split level basement into a separate space for rent. I hear it’s only doable as an adu if I’m on 1/3 acre; which I’m not. Trying to figure out work around

@Chris Seveney You might have a referral for an attorney? I need help answering legal questions with real estate in Maryland? Thanks!

@Russell Brazil could I do the project and market as “rooms for rent”? AirBnb, etc... I’ll be paying all utilities, etc? Thanks

I’m wondering if you ever pursued an In-law suite in Anne Arundel County since this thread? I have a split foyer, primary residence and want to make the lower level separate for rent.  Any thoughts?
