@MikeHurney and @ShaunReilly, thank you for your responses!

@MikeHurney, with regard to your question, I do have enough saved for a down payment on a property, either similar or slightly larger. The questions in my mind are:

- Should I buy a property that needs work and improve on an apartment-level or try to do something larger (like a single family home)? (Keep in mind this is the first time)

- Is there any way for me to learn and "dip my toes in" the first time? Or should I just take the plunge?

Any advice you have would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Jenny

Hi,

I have been an avid reader of BP for a few years, and recently took the plunge into real estate investing myself. I've purchased two condos in the Boston area (Allston and Jamaica Plain) this year.  I like the strong demand from students and young professionals in these areas, and am looking to further expand.

For investors familiar with these areas, do you have any advice (both near term and long term) about how I scale. Specifically:

+ How do you make the leap from investing in a few condos to multi-family (2-4 family units)? (Particularly given the price points of the metro Boston area)

+ If you were in my shoes, what kind of growth goals would you set for yourself in the next 2 years? 5 years? 10 years?

Thank you so much! I have so many questions and realize this is a fantastic forum to learn from others who have been in my shoes before.

Jenny
