I want to make an offer on two condos in the same neighborhood of Mechanicsville, VA 23223. I'm not as familiar with the area as with Chesterfield County and need some advice about the quality of the neighborhood. How are the schools and what is the crime rate compared to the surrounding neighborhoods? Is it considered a good environment for investing? What quality of tenants does the area attract? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Hi All!

My name is Justin Wilson from the Boston, MA area.  My professional experience is in civil engineering.  I graduated from college five years ago and since then I've worked in Alaska, Virginia, and Massachusetts.  I kind of fell into real estate investing accidentally.  When I was working in Virginia, I bought a condo as my primary residence, but I changed jobs just after I bought it and kept it as a rental.  Since moving back to Mass, I bought I duplex and changed jobs again just after buying that.  I turned it into my second rental.

My primary focus is on multifamily buy and holds. Ultimately, I'd like to be able to retire solely on the income from rental properties, but I've got a long way to go. Right now, I'm just learning as much as I can about RE investing and looking for my third rental. I'd like to invest in Mass, but since the properties are very expensive, I am looking into the Richmond, VA and Cleveland, OH markets. I'm looking forward to being part of the BiggerPockets community for many years to come!
