Post: Security deposit standards

Hello friends! New to this area and I’m trying to figure out what the standards and laws are for things claimable on security deposits. Specifically looking north toward Vienna/Arlington area if it makes a difference. I’m not finding a link and want to make sure that I’m not dragging other regions’ practices to here. Does anyone have a link that I’m not seeing or know where things like what amount of wall damage merits claiming against the deposit? Thanks!

Quote from @Bonnie Low:

I have to agree with the local, ground coffee crowd. It's a nice way to promote a local business and people who really care about having good coffee will appreciate it. Personally, I can't stand Keurig or Nespresso coffee. Admittedly, I'm a coffee snob, though. If I had to choose and couldn't have a nice cup of pour over drip, I'd opt for the Mr. Coffee. Not great, but not the worst option. Oh, and one more thought. Offer a simple tea pot, also. Whether it's stove top or an electric plug in. I usually travel with my own coffee and the drip set up. All I need is an easy way to heat up the water.

Appreciate this that pairs with @Malcomb Stapel’s suggestion  I went to a local roaster today and set up to work with him. He was delighted and I’ll be happy knowing there’s less waste and a local business is getting some exposure. Win win, so far as I’m concerned.

I should add that I've never needed to use a printer when working remotely.
I love that the one item i mentioned was the one you absolutely have never needed. This

Highlights exactly the benefit of your feedback. Thank you!

As I'm setting up a STR I find myself with both an available desk and space that makes sense to set up as a small workspace/office space to check that block realistically in a search engine, and genuinely accommodate if somebody is a digital nomad and using my space.

*What are others using to set up such a space?

Buying a printer seems like an expensive option, but something hotels have. Just having a desk, a chair, and a hauty “you’re welcome” seems a touch half hearted. Polling the audience for some ideas….

These are all fantastic answers to chew on for setting this up. Thank you all so much and I hope it helps anyone else setting up down the road.

Setting up a STR and looking for feedback on what the best choice for a coffee setup is. Not sure if a pot invites poor guest management of it and overuse of grinds than they need or if K Cups are just overpriced and hyper wasteful but self-regulate the customer.

Thoughts and feedback greatly appreciated :)

K cups  are easy to use, very little mess. Leave six pods per guest for under $3.

Coffee pots are also easy. Most adults know how to make a pot and clean up after themselves. Leave a small Tupperware container with enough grounds for two pots of coffee per guest for under $0.50.

I hate k cups for the environment (along with bottled water and capri sun pouches) but it's a personal choice.

I very much dislike the waste and environmental damage as well. It feels like all I’ve seen anymore are K Cups in STRs so I thought maybe there was something I didn’t know.

I haven’t considered the Nespresso option. I’ll have to check that out! Otherwise it sounds like ground is ok.

Any issues with guests breaking pots? OR just go with a metal pot?

Looking for anyone with feedback on STR management in the area. I have a property I'm looking to put up for STR, and looking for a good manager. Nicer property with high capacity, pool, fireplace, etc.

Does anyone have any good referrals for contractors (metal roofing, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing) that are out in (or get out to) Packwood, WA? Thanks!

Looking for contractors for roofing (steel), interior carpentry/construction, plumbing, and electrical that work in the Packwood, WA area. Looking for bids on a specific project for a vacation rental turn. Short timeline preferable, but flexible.
