@Conor Hesch, What do you mean by first time to be exact.  I own a home but am interested in making a first time investment property purchase.  Would that qualify as a first time?

I'm not sure if this works in every state but in MN you can go the the county's website in the real estate tax look-up section.  Type in the property address and click on the most recent property tax bill.  You can see who they send it to.  I just wish there was a way to find the phone number.  I am wondering if anyone has a trick for that. If the owner is deceased this might be a dead end.  If it is bank owned then the bank address will be shown.  You can also see if any special assessments have been added to the tax bill due to the property being neglected. Hope that helps.

We need to have a skylight removed in our home in St. Paul, MN.  We are looking for someone who can handle the removal, re-roofing, insulating, and sheet rocking.  We have a problem with too much moisture in our home and the condensation build up in the winter is rotting the skylights wooden frame.  If you have a solution for rotting wood frame we would love to hear it.  We think the best thing to do at this point is remove it entirely and figure out a solution for the humidity.  Thanks

Hello, my husband and I are newbies and plan to invest in our first rental property in the next 12 months. I would like to find a Real Estate Tax Accountant in the Twin Cities, that could provide us with some guidance as we prepare to buy our first property. I know I can go to http://taxexperts.naea.org/ to find experts in my area, but I was really hoping to get a recommendation from an experienced/established investor.

A huge thank you to everyone who has responded. I sincerely appreciate your support! I'm quickly learning what an impressive resource the BP community is. I will follow up on all the suggestions. Thanks for paying it forward and responding.

Hi, I'm not only new to BP but new to real estate investing. Over the next year I plan on saving for a down payment for a multi family property that I plan on buying and holding. In the meantime I want to learn as much as I can about being a landlord. I'm wondering if there are schools for that? I plan on reading books, blog posts, member forums, etc on the subject but would love to learn more hands on or in a classroom environment. I live in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul). Does anyone know of any schools or have suggestions for learning. Or is it something I don't need to focus on first hand?  My other thought was to get a part time job working in a rental office for an apartment building,  but I'm questioning how much value I would get from that verses the time put in. Thank you for any advice/suggestions.

Hi Lesley, I'm new to BP as well and interested in possibly investing in multi-family units in Asheville as my husband and I are considering moving there in a couple of years.  You asked a great question and I will follow the answers.  We are possibly thinking of traveling there in May.  I understand we can keep track of our travel expenses if we have some meetings set up in advance and deduct them if we end up purchasing a property.  I heard that on this weeks podcast.  I hope you listed to that.

I want to find out if Asheville is a good place to invest.  Seems like a liberal mecca for the South East US.

Any information I can gather on Asheville will be helpful.  Are you hoping to move there as well?
