Yes, welcome! Get your feet wet and start finding ways to analyze properties. Having a VA loan and living in FBX is an amazing place to be starting. If you need a good local investor friendly agent referrel DM me I know a great one in FBX - and if you come through to Anchorage let us know! I would encourage you to see about getting something before you separate as your ability to get a loan should be stronger now - but talking to a great lender will give you the ultimate answer you'll need about that.

 ... if they pass proposed regulations... there are at least three different proposals in that article...

As an owner of multiple STRs here - I don't mind a $200 a year tax on them... it will probably keep out many operators that are not as serious... regulations so often end up benefitting bigger operators (eg. hotels) and hurting true mom and pops.

I don't - because I know how hard it is too keep staff even in the comparative metroplis' of Wasilla and Anchorage... 

I went out to do some due diligence meeting at Summit Capital. They also were advertising as Lakehouse Capital - then before that Northlake capital... the following links show that the main founder has lost investor capital before. etc.

Nice work Jake! Seems like you've found a pretty profitable niche there in Hawai'i - if you can turn $200k to 600k in under a year - I'd keep doing that. In fact - I'll do it with you - let's go! 

If your Return on Hassle is not great - meaning you really just want to let your money work for you longer term - then I'd say look at some house or multi-family purchases where you can hire out the upkeep/etc. If you go that route in AK - I'm Anchorage based and ready to get after it, let's go!
