Welcome @Jose Diaz! I remember when I first found this sight I was overwhelmed too! My best advice is to listen to the podcasts. They go over the same ideas a lot but with a unique perspective for each person. I literally started from the beginning and have been listening to them on my commute to and from work. I've gotten so many great ideas and a more thorough understanding of the concepts just by listening. You are in a great place! There are so many helpful people on this site! Good luck!

Hey @Derrick Shinault, I'm right in your area. I live in College Park.  I am pretty new too but I've been making some progress. PM me and I'll give you my cell and help you get pointed in the right direction. I've already made some amazing contacts from biggerpockets. I'd be happy to share my network and my experiences with you. Good luck with your investing in the mean time!

My why is control over my life. I hate being told what to do. I hate being dictated to. Last week I was speaking to a note investor and he agreed to meet with me in the afternoon. I tried to find coverage at my work and my boss said no. I lost an incredible opportunity so that I could sit at my desk. I HATE THAT! I calculated my income from my job if you include my commute time after taxes and I'm bringing in less than $20 an hour. To give so much of my life for so little return just really makes me mad. I want to live my life on my terms. If I am working I want to know that it is improving my life and well being. I want to have the freedom to meet with a wealthy investor on a Wednesday afternoon. I want to take a vacation and not worry if I have enough vacation days on the books. I want to love what I do and contribute to my community. I want to get home at night with feeling like I made a difference instead of feeling like I have so much to do and less than 2 hours to do it before I have to go to bed so that I can get enough sleep to get up and do it all over again. My why for investing in real estate is that I still have hope that that I can take control of my own life and stop being a servant to a system that will use me up and throw me away!!!

My wife told me that she heard rental income up to the price of the mortgage was not required to be reported for tax reasons. I have never heard this and to me it sounds wrong but when I mentioned it she said that I was wrong. Can anyone help me understand if there is a time/ way that rental income is exempt from being claimed on taxes?  Thank you.

Hey Carlos! Welcome. Honestly I would take everyone's advice and continue to learn. There is so much to learn and if you don't have a particular passion then I think you should wait, educate, and see if something pops! When you find something you like ask for more information on it. I've had great response by just putting out there my ideas and questions on Bigger pockets! This site is awesome! Also find someone you can talk to about your ideas. I know everyone says find a mentor but my experience is that stuff happens organically when you're pursuing something that interests you. While on that path you'll find people to guide you. Good luck brother!!!!

Is there anyone on here in the DC area that invests in notes? I'm getting interested in it and want to learn more about it but most people I ask don't know what I'm talking about. I'd love to sit down for a cup of coffee or something and learn more if anyone is interested. Thank you.

I'm in the same boat. I'm looking for financing with a few credit unions and some local banks. I don't have any answers yet but I'm following this post for what everyone else says. Keep me posted on what you find out! I'll do the same!
