Hi Jonathen!  As Joshua mentioned, the Facebook group is a great place to start.  I am one of the admins. I am a Realtor, Investor, and property manager in San Angelo.

 Thanks Aaron,

I found the group and sent through a request to join.

Jono Jonathen McHugh,

Welcome to The United States, and especially to San Angelo, Texas!

There is a San Angelo Area Real Estate Group on Facebook that I would like to introduce you to: “San Angelo Real Estate Investor Network,” if you use Facebook and would be interested in joining. I am not an admin of the group, but the administrators are very receptive, and I am sure we all, as a group, would love to have you join the forum. We were having regular meetups, but since COVID, the meetups have unfortunately seen a decline. However, the forum is still very active.

To introduce myself: my wife and I own 5 SFHs, 4 Long- and 1 medium-terms, in San Angelo and have been actively looking for a short-term in Arlington, Texas and a small multi-family, medium-term, in Topeka/Lawrence/Kansas City, Kansas area, as we have some family that could be boots on the ground for us in those locations. I also work a W2 as a municipal firefighter for the City of San Angelo, and my wife is a registered dietitian in San Angelo and the surrounding area.

We are happy to welcome you and your family here to San Angelo, and we are excited to hear that you and your brother are interested in investing in the United States. I personally hope “y’all” (that’s how we say it here in Texas) do consider investing here within our growing city, as I am especially biased to the economic development within our city as an employee of the municipality, and as a local investor.

Again, welcome, and please feel free to reach out!

 Hey Joshua,

Thank you for the warm welcome, much appreciated. We actually live just down the road from fire station 6. Once my wife's H4 work permit is approved she will be starting her own flower business as the property we stay on has 5 acres, we also plan on converting a portion of that land to a short-term rental to not only offer the unique option of staying on a "flower farm" in town but also to capitalize on the colosseum down the road.

We have every intention of investing in San Angelo upon approval of our green cards and look forward to the process. I am sure we will cross paths down the road and it will be great to learn more about the area over a cold beer sometime.

Thanks again and all the best

Jono

Good day all,

Firstly, big fan of the biggerpockets community and the incredible knowledge and advice that is put out on this forum, so thank you to all those that take the time to share and enable the rest of us to grow. Much appreciated.

My story

The family and I just immigrated from South Africa to San Angelo, TX in November 2022, and happy to say we are settling in nicely and excited to lay down some roots and become active investors within the San Angelo real estate community.

We had a few single family properties in South Africa that we sold to fund our move to our new home in Texas. I am partnered with my brother on 2 other multi-family properties in the UK, which we are not overly enjoying. He is also interested in investing in real estate in the US once we are established.

I currently work as a Range Manager and I am here on an H1B non-immigrant visa. The H1B visa allows me to apply for green card status after 3-years of living within the US and working with my current employer. Unfortunately, the work visa comes with "restrictions" and legally I cannot earn an additional income other than the job stated on my visa, which includes income from rentals.

However, I am not overly concerned as I am using this time until we get our green cards (at which point we can then get any job or create any additional income freely) to learn more about the real estate environment in the US and specifically within the San Angelo area.

I consume the BP podcasts just as greedily as these damn girl scouts cookies that we stumbled upon! What I would really like to do within the next 3-years is to position myself into a strong financial position (we have to build our credit score from scratch) and build relationships with brokers, lenders, real estate agents, contractors, and so forth, so that once our green cards are approved we can purchase multi-family properties or BRRRR other properties, with people that I already know and trust.

My employer owns numerous commercial properties around the San Angelo area and has been incredible at introducing me to many role players, but I was hoping to join either an investor group or monthly meetup in the area?

Again, truly appreciate all the incredible people on these forums that are so generous with their time and knowledge.

All the best

Jono
