Future San Angelo Investors Looking To Network
Good day all,
Firstly, big fan of the biggerpockets community and the incredible knowledge and advice that is put out on this forum, so thank you to all those that take the time to share and enable the rest of us to grow. Much appreciated.
My story
The family and I just immigrated from South Africa to San Angelo, TX in November 2022, and happy to say we are settling in nicely and excited to lay down some roots and become active investors within the San Angelo real estate community.
We had a few single family properties in South Africa that we sold to fund our move to our new home in Texas. I am partnered with my brother on 2 other multi-family properties in the UK, which we are not overly enjoying. He is also interested in investing in real estate in the US once we are established.
I currently work as a Range Manager and I am here on an H1B non-immigrant visa. The H1B visa allows me to apply for green card status after 3-years of living within the US and working with my current employer. Unfortunately, the work visa comes with "restrictions" and legally I cannot earn an additional income other than the job stated on my visa, which includes income from rentals.
However, I am not overly concerned as I am using this time until we get our green cards (at which point we can then get any job or create any additional income freely) to learn more about the real estate environment in the US and specifically within the San Angelo area.
I consume the BP podcasts just as greedily as these damn girl scouts cookies that we stumbled upon! What I would really like to do within the next 3-years is to position myself into a strong financial position (we have to build our credit score from scratch) and build relationships with brokers, lenders, real estate agents, contractors, and so forth, so that once our green cards are approved we can purchase multi-family properties or BRRRR other properties, with people that I already know and trust.
My employer owns numerous commercial properties around the San Angelo area and has been incredible at introducing me to many role players, but I was hoping to join either an investor group or monthly meetup in the area?
Again, truly appreciate all the incredible people on these forums that are so generous with their time and knowledge.
All the best
Jono
