Hello to all....i have been searching for a home since about December. My partner who has the majority of the money is flaking. Leaving me to make a move that i am not sure i am ready to do. I've got about 10k and want to move from my rental by June 2018. As a Professional Chef i am naturally handy with my hands. It also helps that i grew up with a GC as a father.

So...my question is...Should i wait, save more money to qualify for FHA @ 5% or try and find a foreclosure and work on it myself?

@Alex Malyarovich, Bergen county has a lot to offer if you know where to look. I have been looking for the right "deal" and I have seen several. I typically am aim at the multi units. I look for taxes less then 9k, home no older then 60's. Separate utilities and boilers. The key is the trains that service norther NJ, The commenters. I used to be one so i know. Close to the parks for families and dog owners. Good schools 7+ rating, 7 being on the lower end.

I hope this helps.

Great story!!!! I could totally understand why the realtor didn't take you serious. I used to party early in life and grew up in my early 20's. Keep up the good work and don't ever give up!!!!
