Post: Basement cracks, molds 2 months after buying house

Hi everyone!

I just bought a house for personal use, it is a newly flipped house. I had inspection done prior to buying the house but 2months after I bought it, the carpet in the basement is wet. I had a contractor come by and he said there are cracks on the walls and a lot of moisture, most likely floor cracks as well. It also tested positive for mold. I contacted the inspector who did the inspection prior to me buying the house and he said he didn't check for moisture in the basement during that time because the main water valve in front of the house was leaking at that time. The contractor said it will cost me $20,000 to get the basement waterproofed. Is there anything else I could do? Is there any liability for the seller at this point as the house was supposed to be completely renovated when I bought it?  Thank you.

Thank you for all your inputs!!! I will definitely look into those.
Hi, would anyone know which condos allow airbnb in metro atlanta? I know a lot of condos have restrictions on short-term rentals but I’m having difficulty finding details about it. Thank you!

I'm looking for a CPA familiar with taxes for physicians working in different states (traveling MD) plus doing real estate. Please send me a message. Thank you!

Thank you everyone for your inputs! Will look into the neighborhoods you mentioned.

@Erin Church, was thinking I wanted to be in the perimeter, but if the numbers don't work, I'm flexible. Preferably close to the airport too!

Thank you Kisean! Very helpful. Would you mind sharing how exactly you found a house? Did you use an agent or you looked for it yourself?

@Tom Ott

Hi Tom! I am almost in the same position as David, also a newbie in this field. Might be a silly question, but how do  I know if rent is climbing up in an area? Thanks!

Hi, I am a new investor and currently looking for an investment property in Atlanta to househack. I just moved to Georgia but travel a lot for work so I am not familiar wtih the area. Any suggestions on which neighborhoods to look into? Thank you.
