@Max M. I completely understand your point of view. I started at Parkland Community College here in Champaign and am currently taking online classes for a business degree from Eastern Illinois. I had quite a few people who think I'm crazy for going the route I am but the typical degree and 9-5 route sounds miserable once you start looking at other options!

@Scott Dixon Thanks for the welcome. I'd like to get into student rental/near campus rental at some point but will probably begin with SFR off campus to begin. Thanks for keeping me posted on meet-ups, I'd enjoy getting to know Champaign REI's and discussing things with you guys!

@Paul Timmins Yup! Good ol' UIUC. I've talked with a few people who own rental properties in Champaign and their seems to be a mixed feeling regarding on campus properties. Quite a few people don't want the hassle of dealing with college students apparently!

Hi everybody! I'm Joe and I'm new to BiggerPockets as well as Real Estate Investing. I'm a 22 year old from Champaign Illinois. I've been interested in investing (not just real estate) for a few years now and the past few months have been doing quite a bit of research on REI. I've still got a lot to learn before I get to really get my feet wet but am hoping to purchase my first rental property sometime during 2015.

I tried to get a profile pic up but doesn't seem to allow it on my MacBook (Safari browser).
