I do as a formality, but as one person mentioned, I don't leave it at that. I educate myself and learn all I can. I just had an inspection last week and I had to point out several things that should have been caught. If you put too much faith in them, it may promote complacency in that you no longer feel the need to take some of the matter in your own hands. Believe me, the inspectors have plenty in their contracts to avoid liability when they miss something and you get stuck with a tear-down.
