Hi All. I'm purchasing my first SF in Syracuse and plan on house hacking it. There is a good size half bath I'd like to add a shower to for my future tenant, and also update the vanity. Any recommendations for a bathroom remodeler/contractor in Syracuse? Thanks in advance!

Hey Jessyca! I am a resident of Camillus, currently in Mass. for work, and I'm not positive about finding a renter that would mind your situation of house hacking (shared kitchen), but I do know that house hacking is a thing in the area. Camillus does have a big community college nearby and Syracuse university a bit further but still folks renting in Camillus making the commute (not sure who you may be targeting but a shared kitchen may sway rent lower and attract college students which is not always a bad thing if they know the landlord is below)...watch property taxes which can be high in areas of Camillus, hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you Kent. Yeah, my agent mentioned that in Camillus, I might get students whose parents want them to live in a safe area, and as an added bonus, they might like that a professional adult is living there with their child. Property taxes are pretty high, you are right (hence why I was looking to house hack lol). Thanks again!

Hi! I live in Syracuse and house hacked in the 90's. I would recommend looking for a 2 family OR if going with your above scenario putting in a small kitchenette. Truly doesn't need to be much.

Buying a MF was my original plan but finding it hard to find one that meets my criteria OR my offer doesn't get accepted. So I thought I would expand to SF, too. I was also thinking of adding a kitchenette, thanks for the advice!

Hi Jessica, it's possible it all depends on what price you are paying for the property and what is the rent in the area.

thank you

Hi everyone. I am looking to purchase a SF in a suburb of Syracuse (Camillus), and I'm wondering if house hacking is a thing here for single family homes? Back where I lived in NJ, it definitely was, but not sure if Syracuse renters are open to share their space in this way. The homes I'm interested in would have a finished basement (1 bedroom + living space) with a full bath and separate entrance, but we'd be sharing the kitchen. I'd be fine with having the renter have the larger upstairs space, and I would take the basement. Curious to know if I could actually get a renter and if this plan is feasible in this market?
