Starting out with a SF in Syracuse, NY

Hi everyone. I am looking to purchase a SF in a suburb of Syracuse (Camillus), and I'm wondering if house hacking is a thing here for single family homes? Back where I lived in NJ, it definitely was, but not sure if Syracuse renters are open to share their space in this way. The homes I'm interested in would have a finished basement (1 bedroom + living space) with a full bath and separate entrance, but we'd be sharing the kitchen. I'd be fine with having the renter have the larger upstairs space, and I would take the basement. Curious to know if I could actually get a renter and if this plan is feasible in this market?
