@Account Closed I understand and am looking to join some REI clubs in my area. I wasn't planning on going into these open houses searching for a buy I simply have heard and over and over how its beneficial to go to them so I was curious of how the process works and what I should be looking for. I appreciate your advice!

One thing I hear and read over and over againwhile studying is this idea of "going to 100s of open houses." From what I understand, you should do this before ever making your first deal just to get a basic overall understanding of the process and how the market is doing in particular areas but I am not sure if I understand how that works.  Can anybody go to an open house even if they aren't looking to buy? Where do you find open houses for potential flips and such? What should I be looking for, asking, or trying to learn while going to these open houses?

I know all this stuff is probably common knowledge but I have never purchased a house and I have never been involved in the real estate scene in the past so I am not sure how all of this works.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I am really new as well! From what I have seen so far BP is a great place to learn! Check out the podcasts, blogs and read all the guides they have under the education tab.  I have learned so much from all those resources and from just the people here on BP and I've only been a member for two weeks.

Welcome and good luck!

I'm attending the one they are doing on December 10th. Although I know a lot of these events are for people who have unrealistic expectations and want to "get rich quick" using real estate I figure there still has to be something to learn. Plus it is free so why not haha.

I appreciate the advice! I am actually working with a contractor right now doing all sorts of work on houses during the day in order to gain experience.

Hello everyone,

I am 19 and have been learning everything I can about REI over the past 3 months. I have primarily focused on flipping to sell because that is what appeals to me the most but I pretty much understand the basics behind other methods as well. Although I am attending the University of Louisville I may quit after I get my two year degree (I'll have it in a semester) so I can put all my money towards a deal and not a college degree I don't plan on using anyways.

My question is where should I get started?  There is only so much learning I can learn before I actually get out there and take action.  I don't want to get stuck just constantly learning but never actually taking action .  My goal is to do a deal within the next 3 years but I'm not sure what I should be doing to move on that goal because I don't have much financial history or money although I am working to change that.  All together I am just really stuck on what my next steps might be at this age and I would love to hear what more seasoned investors have to say or anybody with an opinion in general.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Jesse
