I will say, first hand, that it kept us grounded from moving away. Gave us the opportunity to think our lives through and make the decision that we thought would be most beneficial; and that was to stay and build our foundation where we grew up! :) Now we can spend our vacations seeing the world instead of coming back to visit family!

The business climate makes the economy weaker I think and the housing stock in the east is older then a lot of places but that will be true down to VA. Tenant law well I am with you on that but it is better then MA.

On the plus side RI is an insider state.  You will tend to see tax credits and legislation that favors the resident. If you are a college grad there is a state program for a down payment, that may help if you are looking to live in a 3 or 4 unit. Don't get discouraged and keep looking.  Selling in RI is seasonal so lots more competition now too, even if the market is hot buyers fall off in the fall.

I took advantage of the College Grad Grant! Couldn't be any happier to start my real estate portfolio sooner!

Thanks Jared! I'm already enjoying being surrounded by like minded individuals! Getting my feet planted and looking to go full force. Best of luck as well and make sure we stay connected!

Thanks Stephen! I had eyes on the india point/fox point area for awhile now. As soon as house came available I put an offer in sight unseen. 6 Months later, I'm glad I did! Strong bones and close proximity to downtown. Hoping the Rental rates keep climbing! In the meantime, the house is under the knife for some updates. Good luck on your purchase!

Hey Corey, I am a Rhode Island native and actually just bought a multifamily in East providence, RI. Don't know much about Boston, but with all the construction and planning that's been approved, I think we are about to see some change here. Good luck!

It's a bona fide multi-family but I still think usually a better tenant mindset than 3 or 4 family. I'm sure it will be a great education & experience for you, and welcome to Bigger Pockets as well :)

Thanks Anthony! It's been a few months now and I have already learned a ton. Excited to learn more

Hey guys! I am an Architectural Designer and I am new to the real estate world. Just purchased a 2-Unit Multi-family in an up and coming neighborhood and looking to learn as much as I can in order to expand my real estate portfolio. I am extremely interested in redeveloping old ran down homes into architectural marvel's (One can only dream).
