We're not allowed to communicate this way on a public BP forum. Please reach out privately to the people you want to talk to.

Ahhhh, thank you. I'm trying to figure out why no of the CPAs that were commenting were explaining what makes them a good fit.

It's important to find a CPA that knows real estate tax law back and forth and specializes in that area. It's a logical fallacy to suggest that the CPA must also invest in real estate because that will give them a boost in knowledge related to real estate tax law somehow.

I don't think it's unrealistic to have an expectation that their CPA also is an REI. I would think that is specifically why @Jeremy Bailey is seeking one out on these forums.

Do you think that you meet the criteria that I'm looking for?

The phrase that got my attention was "...a real estate specific CPA that I've been unhappy with for many years"

First, why would you stick with someone for many years if you're unhappy, unless you two are married?

Second, what exactly are you unhappy about, since it sounds like your current CPA already checks the box of being a real estate specialist?

Do you think that you meet the criteria that I'm looking for?

It's important to find a CPA that knows real estate tax law back and forth and specializes in that area.  It's a logical fallacy to suggest that the CPA must also invest in real estate because that will give them a boost in knowledge related to real estate tax law somehow.

For example, how many owners of restaurants are "looking for a CPA that also owns a restaurant."  How many manufacturing enterprises are "looking for a CPA that also owns a manufacturing company."

We can quickly see that argument doesn't make a lot of sense, but I can understand why a lot of people, primarily real estate tax professionals on BP, push it.

I would recommend interviewing a few qualified CPAs that are in and out of state. It's important to look for CPAs that also invest themselves because they will know the tax code better.

My Current accountant seems good at what he does on the real estate side with what we hand him on a silver platter, but he completely sucks at advising us at how to further reduce our taxes on both on the real estate and personal side. MY wife has to read and ask him questions constantly for the most basic of write-offs. I'm done. Moving on.

I'm extremely busy and I don't have time to keep switching CPAs. I'm looking for a new one, and I'm hoping to not switch again for another 10 years.

Hi folks, I'm in the market for a new CPA that specializes in all things Real Estate. They can be located anywhere in the USA. I've read through a bunch of posts and it seems like we have some in the group. I'll also take recommendations for CPAs outside of this group. I prefer someone who handles mainly RE related clients as their primary client.

I'm a full time Realtor and a Real Estate Investor. I qualify as a real estate professional. I currently have a real estate specific CPA that I've been unhappy with for many years. All of my Real Estate activities work underneath my LLC. I need an aggressive, competent tax advisor & CPA to do our tax returns for both the LLC & personal. Must understand accelerated depreciation, and know the RE tax codes inside and out. Must be proactive in making sure I'm preparing for and taking advantage of any changes in the tax laws throughout the year.
