Hi everyone,

I’m Jayson, and I’m excited to join the BiggerPockets community! I’ve recently become interested in real estate investing, and I’m looking forward to learning from all of you and sharing my experiences.

A little bit about me:

  • Background: I currently serve in the military and have a strong background in human resources. My experience has honed my organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex tasks, which I believe will be valuable as I dive into real estate investing.
  • Goals: I’m looking to build a real estate portfolio, specifically focusing on rental properties, multifamily properties, and commercial properties. I’d love to learn more about the financial side of things and strategies for growing my investments over time.
  • What I’m Looking for: I’m hoping to connect with others who have made the transition from military to real estate and seasoned investors who can offer advice on starting out and building a sustainable portfolio. I’m here to connect with like-minded individuals passionate about real estate and willing to share their experiences. I’m looking to learn from the experts, hear about others’ journeys, and gain insight into the strategies that have worked for them.

    Fun Fact: Outside of real estate, I’m passionate about working out, being outdoors, and I’m also a PADI certified diver! I love staying active and exploring new places, both under and above the water.
  • I look forward to being part of this supportive community and learning everything I can. One day, I hope to partner with others on a large-scale deal, and I’m confident that the knowledge and connections I gain here will help me achieve that goal.

Investment Info:

Single-family residence buy & hold investment.

Purchase price: $155,000
Cash invested: $40

This home is actually in Puerto Rico

What made you interested in investing in this type of deal?

The home was purchased years ago. Since it is paid off, I thought it would be a good idea to make it into a STR.

How did you find this deal and how did you negotiate it?

I was just on the market for a home on the island, with zero knowledge of what I was doing and zero experience.

How did you finance this deal?

Conventional Loan 30 fixed.

How did you add value to the deal?

I remodeled the bathrooms, upgraded all lighting, added A/C units, new windows, and new appliances.

What was the outcome?

Passive income!

Lessons learned? Challenges?

I should have purchased a lot more property back then.

Did you work with any real estate professionals (agents, lenders, etc.) that you'd recommend to others?

I did, but I do not remember who it was.

Investment Info:

Single-family residence buy & hold investment.

Purchase price: $387,000

This will be my second home purchase. Unfortunately, I sold my previous house in Colorado... I plan to move out in August (1-year occupancy) and purchase a second deal closer to my job using my VA loan.

What made you interested in investing in this type of deal?

The area is growing, and commercial land was purchased to build a Publix, gas station, and medical facilities.

How did you find this deal and how did you negotiate it?

I found this deal by driving around the area. I am new at this and had not discovered bigger pockets until now. I will use the tools to analyze my purchase and move forward with purchasing more real estate.

How did you finance this deal?

I used my VA loan to finance this property.

How did you add value to the deal?

I made minor upgrades to the home, including lighting, cabinets, a screened lanai, gutters, and a screened porch.

What was the outcome?

I still live in the property. August 2025 will be my 1-year mark.

Lessons learned? Challenges?

Use Bigger pockets as a tool for future purchases and network with other investors for opportunities at greater deals.

Did you work with any real estate professionals (agents, lenders, etc.) that you'd recommend to others?

I worked with Stacy Speir. She was my realtor and did a great job. I recommend her.
