Hey Bud! This is always a tough one for me and my fiancé. We just bought a house in the Bay Area and don’t exactly feel comfortable renting out rooms. There are a lot of opinions on this topic, but it’s really a matter of personal comfort I guess. Thank you for the motivation though!

Some have described it as investing with training wheels. It’s a great way to start. Good luck!

Hi Brian! This is great and aligns with the ideas I had, so that helps solidify what I was thinking. Thanks you!

Hi Brian, thanks for the tip! We plan to get pre-approved closer to our wedding date, so we have a few months to find a deal when we are in the position to buy. I followed Chris, and will have him in mind when the time comes!

Thanks again

1. BP Set For Life

2. BP House Hacking

3. BP Long Distance Real Estate Investing

Funny they're all Bigger Pockets books but these three have all had a HUGE impact on my early investing days.  Set For Life helped me be frugal and create a career in real estate.  I've house hacked twice and done extremely well with it.  I own a few properties out of state but I'm yet to do David Greene's long distance flip but his book did prove useful to the flipping I've done locally!

Good luck!

Hey Brad, thank you for the response! I will need to check these books out. I have such a short attention span with books... I may need to find an audio book version haha. Did you find/build your REI team through suggestion or trial and error?

Thanks

Thanks for the response, Caleb! We decided that we are going to analyze at least one deal per day, even just for the practice aspect. Do you have any advice on first steps of building a REI team? Also, any tools that you use that may help build this team.

Thanks again

Having been off and on interested in real estate since middle school, I am now finally in a position to invest. BUT, with a wedding to pay for from now until July 2022, I don't plan to actually purchase property until second half of next year. With this said, my fiance and I are looking to build up systems, processes, standards, and teams before it is time to buy. Another added complexity is that we live in the Bay Area, so we will be long distance investing. We both have a solid understanding of REI basics (thanks BP!). I have my own ideas on how to build the aforementioned, however I would really like to hear your suggestions, tips, tricks, and advice. With about 8 months of planning time ahead of us, where should we start? Any replies are appreciated!

Thanks

Don't get discouraged/unmotivated to learn just because you aren't in a position to take action right now. I've been interested in real estate since middle school (thanks to REI parents), but my interest has always come in waves. I would be motivated and actively learning everyday, only to come to the realization that I wasn't going to be able to take any real steps for many years. This went on until only recently. Now, being in a position to invest, I wish I had never stopped learning even for a minute.

Post: So what's holding you back?

@Frank Patalano

Awesome! The problem is that I live in San Jose, CA, so finding any MFR in my price range, and anywhere near my school, is near impossible. With that said, is your advice the same?

Great advice regarding a mentor. I will be sure to attend a meeting!

Thank you,

- Jaycob Walker

As a sophomore in college, I would love to hear some advice on this as well!
