@Michael S. Thanks for the advice! I actually recently met him for the first time, and told him I'm looking at multi-families. While he's not the best landlord, he's certainly doing something right and I hope to pick his brain someday. He did mention that he can potentially send some properties my way if he hears about a few. It's funny, in BedStuy and Bushwick, we see so many pre-foreclosures and many properties that just need a lot of work; so it really leads me to believe that there are deals out there and I just need to keep an open mind and really go on the hunt.

I'm a current renter right now, and I'm a huge fan of onradpad.com and plastiq.com. Both of these sites will allow a tenant to pay for rent via credit card (with a small fee) if the individual wants to. I sometimes use these apps so that way I can get points on my credit cards. The tenant pays via these apps, and they will mail you a check and you can track it as the landlord if you have an account.

RadPad allows users to pay with debit card with no fee or with credit card with no fee if the user has android pay.

I went to this meetup a few weeks ago, there's a lot of business cards being handed out. It's great fun getting to hear everyone's stories.

Hey there BP family,

Thought I'd introduce myself finally after poking around here for a month. My name is Jason Noah Choi and I'm an iOS engineer for a media company in New York. I'm easily distracted so I make a more conscious effort to really focus; and boy, I've really been focusing on real estate in my spare time when I'm not building apps.

Story time: I moved to NY six months ago from San Francisco, and I'm currently renting in Bedford-Stuyvesant. I discovered that my landlord owns a number of multi-families on my block; so I did the math, and wow, these numbers are outrageous. Having allowed this to sink in, my mind is at ease and I know exactly how I want to live the rest of my life. I am going to be a real estate investor.

Because I work downtown, I have my sights set on initially owner-occupying a 2-4 family in Brooklyn, Bronx, or Jersey City. Having already signed up for PRO [@Brandon Turner , you sneaky good salesman, you :) ], I've been analyzing many properties I find on Zillow and Realtor using the rental property calculator. I'm saving as much as I can for a down payment and exploring additional finance options; still, I'm curious if anyone has any experience using an FHA or FHA203K in any of these cities?

I've done a good amount of research and it does seem like these are not the easiest options around considering the types of deals in these parts of town.

I'm lucky to have awoken a new passion and hobby, and it's amazing to read all of the posts on here. I've gained so much by reading through posts, blogs, attending webinars, and listening to the podcasts. I know there are multiple ways to build a real estate empire; it is inspiring, getting to learn the many creative ways the fine people of the bigger pockets community are growing their businesses. This community has already given me so much and I can't wait to give back.
