Good Evening BP,

I have a question about resident managers in New York State.

I was reading The book on Managing Rental Properties by Brandon and Heather Tuner and they stated (pg 181) that a resident manager is required for building of 9+ units in New York.

The Question:

Are resident managers required in New York City (5 boroughs) only or throughout New York STATE?

If they are required throughout New York State, then how many units should I buy to pay for the resident manager? 15 Units? 30 Units? 50 Units?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Jason J.

Hello BP,

I have a question on resident managers.

Are resident managers required in New York STATE for 9+ units or just in New York City?

Also, If they are required in New York STATE, what is a good number of units to have to cover the salary of the resident manager? 10 Units? 15 Units? 25 Units?

Any feedback or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason J.

@Michael P. Why move south? I know nothing about the south and have never lived there. I know NY is expensive, I just have to buy smart!

@Steven G Barret. I guess i am asking what is the best area in Syracuse or Onondaga County? and everyone's opinion on where to start as a newbie. I have a nice chunk of starting money so i just want to see what people would do with it.

Hello BP, I have a goal of buying my first Multi Family property by the end of the year. I have finally saved up about $18,000 in liquid cash and $3,500 in 401k loan.  Looking for tips on were to start. My main concern is cash flow. I want to create a snowball affect and get into bigger units (50+) in the next 5 yr.  Any tips from veterans investors and locals from Central New York! Thanks,

@Alex Deacon I have no plans to quite my job any time soon. I know that one day I might not be able to do the full time job and invest. Just want to know how other people deal with this! Thanks for the response.
