Great post with great advice. I'm an attorney that ask myself this same question everyday and everyday I come up with the same answer that most of these posters have stated. The best thing that we as W2 employees can do is make our W2's work for us until we can firmly and comfortably stand on our own without our current employer. I have also started other businesses (all real estate related) while employed to help me reach my goal.. To me, Real estate is a game of chess not checkers. Each move you make should be in furtherance of your ultimate goal.

@Powell Chee please post an update about which structure you ultimately decided with and how that structure is working out for you. I am asking because I have the same opportunity to invest in real estate using OPM.

I actually had this exact debate with myself. basically you're fine now without it. Wait until you're ready to actively start investing. It's a great tool to have at that point.

You may want to take a different approach and look at this as this a basic breach of contract problem. usually the purchase agreement allows remedies if the seller defaults. You may want to seek legal advice on enforcing options that the purchase agreement allows if the deal means that much to you. Act BEFORE the addendum expires. After the addendum expires you may not be able to enforce due to not having a contract.

I grew up in Midfield... And attended Glen Oaks Elementary . I hate to hear how my hometown has declined.
