Hi Steve! Have you considered using your equity to purchase a multifamily property in San Diego? With the amount of equity you have you would be able to buy a highly appreciating property in an area such as Bankers Hill. For example, when I run the numbers you could get close to a 7% cap rate on a currently listed property like this:    http://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2336-2346-Union-St-San-Diego-CA/11627289/

Good advice on the infrastructure!

Does anyone here have experience with buying a property to rent in Detroit? Would be most appreciative for referrals for good handyman for repairs and property management companies!
