Post: What's your day job to fund your investing?

I am curious how everyone who is a real estate investor got started in it. What is or was the job you had to get you started, or did you start another way? I am currently looking to be a brick mason, as the pay is good and I can be home everyday, which is big to me. Then once I complete an apprenticeship and make better pay, I can start funding buying rental properties.

Is a brick mason my best bet? I have looked at other apprenticeship jobs, as college is too much. And I don't like being on computers that long, i like being on my feet, and want good hours (40 hours a week) so I can be with family.

I looked at evelevator installing, but the jobs isn't near me and only so many people get in.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for the advice Michael! I forgot to mention that I will be having help (not financially) with all the legal work and renting work, as my mom is a property manager at housing, and will be helping guide me on that side of the deal. Also, I have previously worked a seasonal construction job, building a barn. I know it's not much, but I am still fixing things around the house that I can and  I know someone who can help me with repairs too. I'm just really curious with the money side and how investors get started so early.

I want to be a real estate investor.

The first thing I was thinking was to buy a house and rent it out, making a minimum of $200 profit each month, then expand. My biggest problem is getting the money to do it. Obviously I will have a job, but I am 18, so I'm not really making big money lol.

I have seen a couple YouTube videos of opening a business account and using that, because it will jumpstart my career renting out houses. But I'm not to fluent with a business account. My next idea was to get a FHA loan, and I thought that would be another cheap option. I'm not too interested in hard money or lended money, simply because I know no one and have no idea how to get my hands on that.

So I guess what I am asking is, how do all of you successful investors pay for the house so cheap and rake out a nice profit besides your own money once you have that much capital?

thanks to both of you! I appreciate you guys taking time to help me out. I will start with the list you provided me Danny and go from there, Thanks again!

I'm trying to find what I really want to do in life and I came across wholesaling houses and am really interested in it  I'm currently 18, and used to sell on eBay and wanted to open a wholesale business selling items, but that's quite costly!

All in all, this seems like a job that I would really enjoy and have fun doing. I guess I'm kind of looking for a mentor too because I've seen a lot of courses but they are either a scam by hidden prices or they are priced through the roof. All the YouTube videos I have seen and threads I've read on here are helpful, but not really helping me. Is there a course, mentor, or something that you can point me to that will help me be a wholesaler or investor will little money. Thanks!
