@Aditya Soma congrats man and way to free yourself from the 9-5! I'm a new investor as well and I'm with you in your decision! I'm in the same boat. Getting out of the military this Saturday and then it's RE full time when I get my RE license. I'm currently taking classes now! I wish you nothing but success in your RE endeavors!

@Anthony Dooley Thanks for that real perspective! I really appreciate that. I didn't get into PA school this year, so I needed to find work as I continue to apply to PA school. My original plan was to become a PA and use that salary to drive my RE business. However, since I didn't get in this year, I thought starting my business ahead of time as I continue to apply for next year would be a good idea. The goal was to always be in RE, so this would me getting a head start on my business, rather than it just being a distraction. I wouldn't do both at the same time because it would be a hindrance to my PA education.

@Brian Warner Thanks for that input! I haven't thought of it like that. In essence I would treat both as a business. From my understanding, both successful realtors and investors treat real estate as a business and that's why they have excelled in this particular area. In regards to the rules you are speaking of, which "certain rules" do realtors have to follow that you think would hinder them when it comes to actual investing?

Hey Brent!

My goal originally wasn't to be a RE agent. I'm transitioning from the military to the private sector and wanted to get a job that will help me obtain extra skills to become successful in REI, since I did not get into the PA school that I wanted to attend next year.

It seems that one can succeed with or without a license, but that slight advantage can be huge as one is learning the industry from the inside and continually learning the many creative ways to invest in RE.

I just wanted more clarity on this subject since I am deciding if becoming an agent with help me in the long run to help start a very successful REI business.

Are you looking to invest without yours or are you considering getting your license as well?

Hey John!

Is it typically a 3% commission on whether you buy or sell? Or does it depend?

@Chris Ramos

Hey Chris!

Thank you so much for your detailed response! I really appreciate your input. I agree with the pros that you mentioned and I think those benefits can be huge to new investor starting out. I don't think being held to a "higher standard" is a disadvantage because your are supposed to be a business professional as a realtor.

Looking back now, would having your license at the beginning of your journey have made a huge difference with the investments you could have acquired?

Also, from what I've seen on the forums, one of the biggest cons of getting a RE license  people have mentioned is disclosure. Apparently, this has hurt people getting deals done because they have to disclose that they are realtors.

What are your thoughts on this and have you had any negative experiences when acquiring your investments with your license?

Lastly,

What questions did you ask when interviewing different brokerages?

Thanks!

Goodmorning BP family,

My name is Jadel Patterson, an active duty soldier getting ready to transition back to civilian life. I came to BP like most people because I wanted something more for my family and myself. I wanted more to life than just a 9-5 job and trading time for money. I came seeking the tools to achieve financial freedom and independence.

I'm looking to move down to Orlando, FL with my family and I am considering becoming a realtor and RE investor while still applying for PA school. I'm looking for guidance because I've seen the numerous blogs and forums detailing the pros and cons of getting ones license. I'm still weighing the pros and cons of doing so and want to know what good brokerages are in central Florida. Also, what important questions to ask when interviewing brokerages.

Are there any RE investors/realtors here from the Orlando/central Florida area? I would love to talk and pick your brain.

Kind regards,

Jadel Patterson
