@Michael Smythe

Didn't even think of that as a possibility, thank you! Don't know what you don't know haha. Oh, so in that example, you didn't even own the property? That's awesome.

Is there an article that goes into this sublet/landlord anonymity topic more?

@V.G Jason

Hey V.G, thanks for the reply. It's nice to hear the other side of this.

I agree that it shouldn't be freely given out, but maybe it's not avoidable if you're house hacking a SFH as a self-managing landlord?

@Benjamin Sulka

Hey Benjamin, thanks for the reply.

From the responses above, it seems like it's usually a case by case situation. My main concern pertains to house-hacking a SFH as a self-managing landlord. But I guess that just means I'll have to research and find more stories of people who have experience with both.

@Michael Smythe

Here is the controversial answer I was wanting to hear. Thank you for the response.

What about when house hacking a SFH as a self-managing landlord? I'm wondering how you would handle the property showing, the lease, and other things daily encounters?

@Alecia Loveless

Hey Alecia, thank you for responding with your personal experience. That's such a crazy experience, hard to believe people want to abuse a situation like that so much. I'm assuming that's some of the worst it got on your real estate endeavors?

@Logan Laperriere

Hey Logan, I agree that house hacking in a SFH might require a more transparent approach. Thanks!

Hey Ned, thanks for the reply. This answer relates to Derek's in that different property types require different responses. Thanks!

@Noah Bacon

Hey Noah, thanks for the reply. The first paragraph makes a lot of sense for me, but of course, it's case by case. I'll have to think this over!

@Derek Brickley This is great information, thanks. I'm still thinking this decision over, there are many angles to look at.

As described by the title, what are the pros and cons of telling your house hacking roommate that you're the landlord?

Some say to never tell them and let a real estate agent show the house and what not, but I feel that I would have a hard time not being completely transparent with my roommate. Of course, I would keep my distance in terms of them being a close friend, due to any unexpected complications. I just think that I would operate better if I told them up front... What are your thoughts?

Thanks!
