Post: Biggest Fear for Newbies

I am a newbie. I share the same fear as you: How seriously I am going to be treated. Since I am pretty young (22), I fear that the realtor will just laugh at me and then walk away. So there is definitely that fear of being young and inexperienced and getting treated differently because of it.

Connected to the above, I would say another fear is something that I only recently got while reading the forums. In the thread, "Inheriting a tenant that is behind on rent????" someone (obviously not going to call anyone out, that's not my intention) basically said that no one in their right mind would sell properties that generate a good income. That basically if someone is selling an income property is because it turned out to be a bad property or just outright a pain to the owner. So now there's that fear that, when looking at properties and either doing a mental exercise or actually getting serious about buying it, there is something inherently bad about that property. That something *must* be wrong with this property or there is some hidden issue with it. Combined with my inexperience and my age, it's easy to begin fearing that you are going to get taken advantage of and ripped off.

Hi, welcome to BP!

I am new myself and still learning the basics before getting down to my first purchase. If permitted, I would like to ask a question somewhat related to this thread: What is turnkey and how does it work? Is there some link I could read more about this? Apologies for the ignorance.

Thanks!

@Tyler Libby Thanks for the reply!

I live near NYC, in Nassau County. I am not entirely sure if I want to invest in NYC just yet since that market seems to be pretty expensive. Though, I would like to first start with something nearby (CT, NJ, Penn, etc.)

As of right now, not so much. I suppose my medium goal is to get as much done as possible before life gets to me (kids, marriage, etc.) because I feel like at that point, I will not have as much liberty to take risks.

Hello everyone!

I am new to the site (still in the process of finishing my profile) and am new to the whole real estate investment. I am looking to get my hands dirty in the next couple of months. I am 22 and basically will start my career soon. I started reading the Ultimate Guide as well.

I am looking for cash flow at first before I start trying out other areas. My plan right now is to save some money to get a good down payment down and pay off the first property as quickly as possible to get a higher cash flow (if that makes sense). Then I hope to get more properties from then on and using some leverage.

Is this a good plan? If not, what should be my first steps? Also, are there any tips for beginners like me that you would like to share? Things to avoid? Common mistakes? I am basically open to learning as much as possible before starting out since I would not like to commit some mistake that will basically ruin me financially for the next 10 years.

Thank you for your time and I hope I can get to know all of you in the forums soon!
