@Neil Narayan do you think Tulsa is still a legitimate option or are you confident they will build here now that Travis County and Del Valle ISD approved the tax breaks? Would be huge win and hopefully help speed up East Side development in that area (Velocity, Austin Green, etc).

@Matt Riley I purchased my first house hack just under 2 years ago in SouthEast Austin in that price range ($260k) in the Colorado Crossing community to be specific. It is a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home and I was renting out the other 3 bedrooms in the home for $1800/month while living in the Master Bedroom. I have the home on a 20 year mortgage, and still paid less than $200 a month out of pocket (if I was on 30 year fixed it would have covered everything). Still relatively close to downtown, and minutes away from all of the new development on East Riverside/around the Airport. I definitely see the positives of the North Austin suburbs as well, but at the time my office was in South Austin.

@Jordan Moorhead do you mind sharing more details on the duplex and where in East Austin you're investing?

I am looking for single family and small multi-family investments in the greater Austin, TX metro area. Prices are expensive close to downtown, so I am looking for opportunities a little farther out. With potential projects coming to Del Valle like Velocity, Tesla's new Gigifactory, and all other South East Austin Development nearby, do you think this is a smart area to invest in? If not, then where are you all looking in the Austin, TX metro area?

Any comments, knowledge, or advice is appreciated!

Hi Caleb, thanks for the input! That was one of my worries - the low population if we hit another recession. Do you think its grown enough now to maintain through a downturn? The address is 212 Sandstone Drive, Jarrell TX 76537 (Unit C+D).

Found a potential good deal on a duplex in Jarrell Texas. Meets the 1% rent rule, brand new roof, and good long-term tenants. It seems like a good opportunity in a small growing city, but would like more information from anyone who knows more about investing in the greater Austin Texas area. Any information will help - thanks!
