Hey Rich, great idea!

Do you think there is a way to make this work with less capital investment?

like, you take current cars that are for sale "under contract" at x percent from the owner(find them on Craigslist, etc., then you partner with the dealership and post your cars under contract on there lot. When they sell, you take 95% of the car, leaving 5% for rental and advertising by the car dealer.

After that, you can give the original owner of the car 95% of your 95% of the sale.. You would essentially have nothing down, and act as a middle man.

Thinking a little more, this might also work if you own land in general. Turn it into a lot for people selling cars to park them, and you take say, 5% to advertise and house the cars. It's different from a dealer because you dont actually own the cars and the risk is much lower.

Thoughts?

Awesome thread to find!
this is my two passions combined: poker and real estate!

I am currently a college student, but I played full-time online at Pokerstars last summer, puttling in over 100,000 hands and making solid money. I was also out at the WSOP for a week. played a $1500 buy in and like 4 Venetian tournaments.. but mostly just cash games.

Well done in the WSOP J Scott!! awesome accomplishment!

Also, I just wanted to add, what people see on tv is soooooooo edited that its barely real poker (i.e. you only see action hands)
FYI, the final table from this year was over 14 hours long, edited down to 1 HOUR by espn.

I would be extremely interested in getting something going on Fulltilt, sounds like fun!

Does anybody have any experience with buying or selling gold on eBay? Does it sell for that much below fair market value?

Jason- Thats the problem, I think. I have no idea which area of RE would suit me best. How easy is it to get involved in the REIA, what do the meetings consist of? Thanks for your reply!

Derek- Thanks for the info, i'll look into learning more about Argus. Also, I have some very thorough PDF's on Excel (beginner, inter, advanced) that are very good! If you need help with honing your excel skills, I have no problem emailing you those, let me know! Good luck getting a job, let me know what its like if you get an interview or go hand them your resume. thanks.

Hi BP,

I am trying to find a way get involved with real estate, utilizing my school and education. Ideally, I would like to work for a development company, but are they hiring now?

I am not that educated on real estate, but I will do whatever it takes to learn.

Coming from a good business school, in a big city (Twin Cities) I want to find out how to get involved in this niche. I also wouldnt mind interning in NYC or Chicago. Thus far, I have attained a list of people in the industry from our alumni network and also found some companies that are affiliated with the school.

I was wondering if they know of anybody hiring in this economy for summer internships and what is the best way to approach them? What do they look for on a resume? What is a good way to get started (join clubs/associations, any good certifications to get, etc.)

If anybody has any insight on how you got a job/what an introductory real estate job entails PLEASE share it, any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Kyle

Hi Everyone!

I'm going into my senior year at the Carlson School at the University of Minnesota studying Finance and Entrepreneurial Management.

I am just getting started in Real Estate, but am slowly becoming more and more engulfed with the concepts. Unfortunately I am not very educated on the subject, yet. I don't have much spare time to do reading outside of school, so all of my knowledge has come from lurking on this site for about a month.

My short term goals include getting an internship next summer involving real estate (any tips on getting started in this would be greatly appreciated). As far as long term goals, I would like to pursue it as a profession at some point, whether in development (with a bigger company) or doing something on my own.

One thing I am concerned about is staying involved in the site. I really want to get involved and be a frequent poster, etc. Any advice on staying involved without having that great of an understanding of the industry would be greatly appreciated, as well.

look forward to meeting and talking with you on the forums!
