I'm living in CA as well. Was thinking bout the same question. But I think I might just invest out of state with the money earned from CA.

If you can move to anywhere in US for purpose of REI, where would you go (somewhere you can scale up fast) It can be any type of investing, rentals ideally. Is Austin, Texas a good place to start out?
