Post: Bigger Pockets Vs Local REIA

I just signed up for a 3 hour workshop for multifamily at my local REIA on long island. It costs $65 and I see they have a yearly membership of $200. Im just curious what Bigger Pockets can offer which your local REIA can't. I'm really thinking about going PRO on here so I was curious should I cancel the workshop? Should I join the membership for $200/year or just stick to becoming PRO on Bigger Pockets?

Thanks

Jason, Garrett didn't recommend anything, I would have to have a consultation with one of his attorneys.  This is the link if you're curious www.corporatedirect.com

Perry, Thanks for your advice. The structure sounds complicated and I'm sure that's what corporate direct will do for me too. It's just that Im so new to this, I don't really have money to start a company at least $900, then add a CPA to the mix.... I was just curious if anyone just started out as a sole proprietorship then transferred to LLC or LP. I'm trying to avoid a cost that may or may not work for me. I don't even know if real estate is right for me.

BTW, if it helps I was interested in multifamily.

I have followed Garrett Suttons advice for starting a corporation out of state.  If you are not familiar with Garrett Sutton, he is one of Robert kiyosaki "Rich Dad" advisors  He advises everyone to start an out of state corporation, Nevada or Wyoming to avoid damaging lawsuits going after your assets.  Real Estate can greatly benefit from that.

So my question is that I really don't want to fork over $900 to start an LLC or whatever because I don't have a partner and I am very, very new to Real Estate. Would it be important to hit the ground running and just start an LLC even though I don't have my feet wet? How did you guys start off?

Hey guys and gals! My very first post on bigger pockets!

I'm just curious how to find a business partner in this real estate game.  I just don't know how to go about finding partners who have real estate experience, investment money and well... simply anyone interested in real estate.  I'm in diapers at this point, I know NOTHING about real estate except things that Robert Kiyosaki said on youtube (and read Rich Dad Poor Dad), Brandon's recent webinar and I'm currently reading Brandon's Rental Property book.

  Any pointers??
