Post: Short Term Rental Slow Season Tip

Quote from @Cole Simpson:

When things are good (ie busy season), even the mediocre Airbnb host does well. It’s the slow season that separates the mediocre from the great Airbnb hosts.

A great way to approach the slow season is to set a one-night minimum. However, if you are one of those hosts who have a 2+ night minimum, the Airbnb slow season would be a great time to test out a single night minimum, even if it is just for weekdays.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you!

Well, maybe link to an article instead of an ad then....
Why are you still here if you don't like it?  I guess I'm confused...

I'm pretty sure I clarified in my post that this isn't the only place I heard about it.  Somebody I know personally mentioned something in the news which I'm sorry, I didn't see, about the "end of real estate" and I was trying to start an honest discussion about that.   One thing that's happening is that major corporations are buying up a lot of the real estate?

I would think first of all that they'd always been doing that (Rich Dad, Poor Dad?) and second of all there will always be places that maybe the majority of people don't want to buy.

Millennial here. I can certainly see why people would choose STR over hotels. 99% of my hotel experiences have been not worth the money. Especially given the pandemic, I'd imagine it was a lot more preferable to have one's own space. I've been researching STR data and it's interesting how on the surface, some seem to be doing really well and others not so well.

Post: Living Below Your Means And Buying Real Estate

The big reason the idea of living below one's means irks me is because for one example I've personally watched the basic staples that I buy do nothing but go up in price.  I've had to shift my lifestyle many times to get by and I know it can be done, but I'm not personally a fan of the "living below your means" advice.  However it's a good idea to take stock on where one's money is going and what can be cut or changed.

I doubt it personally but this isn't the first place I've heard it at this point and I was just wondering what some of your opinions are on this.

Welcome to the forum!  That's one problem I'm having in my present location also.  The crazy thing is, I've been doing Airbnb research and so many of them don't seem to be doing that well financially on the surface.

Hey Erika, you're likely better suited to find a cohost who has the time to treat your property like a priority. How has your search come so far?

To answer your question, I've been researching Airbnb statistics but I'm not terribly happy with some of what I've found.  It doesn't seem like the properties make enough money that would cover the cost of living in my present area but am open to other areas but I'm still pretty new at analyzing those.

When I signed up here two years ago, I figured I was going to move forward in a specific way in my lower-cost-of-living former location but had to move due to family issues. I've been researching various types of REI and when I read of one thing to learn about, I then find three more things that I then have to learn about. That's what this journey has been like for me. LOL! I know I don't want to stay where I am but am not sure I want to go back to where I was either. Mother is partially disabled so would like to stay near her in the meantime. I am analyzing different markets and aside from analyzing deals I'm set up to receive more potential deals in many areas that I can analyze, will continue analyzing Airbnb and rental data and see which one I might like to focus on to start.

To top things off, I've got a lot on my plate and am trying to make time for everything in my life, some of which I was doing before discovering REI. I go back and forth lately with thinking I should put everything else aside and focus on RE for now, but I just have to tweak my schedule to make everything fit. This site is very awesome and informational though! I'm very grateful for it and the people here who share valuable information.
