Post: Is anyone buying in Belize

William or Greg,

We are headed to Belize, specifically Ambergris Caye, in early December. How would you suggest we go about dealing with a more local (owner) than with the real estate agents who work primarily on the internet with foreigners. It is hard to know if they are being up front with you. We do plan on connecting with some folks we met while we were there in April so maybe they will be able to direct us to more local folks to help us determine if purchasing land there makes sense for us. Any suggestions or help you can give, will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello,

Does anyone have any recommendations for CPA's who have experience with real estate purchases using a SDIRA.

Thanks,

Eric

Hello everyone,

Knowing that these can be very muddy waters at times, my wife and I have been struggling through the IRA real estate investment information available on the internet. It is plentiful, but not sure, sometimes, if what we read is true. We have read on a few occasions that it is possible to partner with your own SDIRA (by adding personal non tax free/deferred funds) in order to come up with the total needed to buy a piece of real estate. This money would still be separate, ex. 50 % paid with check from IRA and 50% paid with check from my checking account. Moving forward everything would again stay separate. Does anyone have knowledge or experience with this?

Thank you and everyone for sharing their experiences, ideas and knowledge on this site.

Eric

Post: Looking for advice on setting up an SDIRA

Good afternoon BP friends,

I'm looking at setting up an SDIRA for the specific purpose of buying a single property - an undeveloped lot - and I'm trying to determine if it makes any sense to use an LLC and/or have "checkbook" control for this particular SDIRA.

My initial thought is that since this SDIRA would be to buy a single piece of undeveloped land and then hold that property as an investment for the next several years, that the additional complexity and expense of an LLC and checkbook control would be unnecessary. I don't anticipate needing to add or spend funds from the account on any regular basis outside of paying the property tax on the land each year.

Anyone have any thoughts on the subject to share?

Also, recommendations for a reputable and inexpensive custodian for the SDIRA is also appreciated.

Thanks so much,

-Eric
