Post: Got My Real Estate License - Thinking of Joining a Brokerage at the start of 2024

I'm excited about the idea of starting my journey as a real estate agent in January 2024. As a college student, I'm mindful of my budget, so I'd prefer not to pay fees for the entire year of 2023 when I'm just getting started.

I do have a few questions and would appreciate your insights. Should I begin reaching out to expired listings and FSBOs even before officially joining a brokerage? The brokerage I'm considering has informed me that if I happen to find a buyer or seller before my planned start date in January 2024, I can promptly activate my license and start doing business.

Another thing I wanted to ask is whether I should start printing my own business cards, even before affiliating with a brokerage. Your advice on these matters would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your guidance!

Hello, I got some great responses on my previous post on how to start as a 20yr old real estate agent (please feel free to reply on that post if you have any tips or advice). One of the many important tips was building my network and connections. I understand how important networking is however how can I provide value through my conversations to professionals when I meet them in events as I am still young and in my mind I feel like they also see me as a kid. How can I leave a great impression when talking to professionals and be able to have them as a connection and not not just have a one time talk. I want to have those professionals as connections and of course I understand it is not an easy thing. I want to also build great knowledge of my real estate market and in general real estate so I can be able to communicate effectively and seem to be knowledgeable of what I am talking about. THANKS!

I would be very grateful if anyone could help me with some advice and tips on how to begin on starting as a real estate agent in Illinois. I am really excited to start this journey as I have already watched a lot of podcasts from BiggerPockets, I have almost finished reading the book The Millionaire Real Estate Agent from Gary Keller and I have went on and talked to 2 brokerages and 3-4 professionals familiar with the real estate industry. My main problem is that I feel like I do not have any people that I know who are going to purchase a home in the near future because my network is mostly contained with other 20 year olds as well. I'll take any advice, I am 100% ready to start and very optimistic about the future!
