Post: Only One Vent Upstairs

I own a house and the landlord who sold it to me decided to put one vent for the entire second floor. There is also a weird vent that’s supposedly an intake vent (that’s what the inspector said) but it’s sealed off, so it’s more like a glorified hole in the floor. Any suggestions as to 1.) how to go about installing more vents or getting more heat/AC (I don’t want window units) 2.) what do do about the mystery intake vent/hole in the floor?

New to home/property ownership so any advice would be great! I eventually plan to move out and put renters in this place.

@Colleen F. Thank you!!! What’s tricky is that some cities in Michigan wrote their own rules. So you have to check both state and local law, then figure out which one reigns supreme. Lol. I might as well just get a lawyer.

@Kyle J.I'm all for using medicinals, and I know many people who have cards for medical conditions. My issue isn't with a card, its for the smoking. Yes, there are other ways of ingesting marijuana, but I would be nervous about taking someone in if there wasn't an iron-clad way to prevent them from smoking.

@Account Closed I did think about that, but I feel like there's some legal loophole. I don't have anything against cards, but I don't want a cleanup project. I'll probably reach out to a lawyer and check with them.

Is it legal to refuse a prospective tenant if they have a medical marajuana card? Nothing against medicinals, but I don’t want to deal with the smell and subsequent cleanup. I also don’t want a lawsuit. I’m in Michigan where it is legal both medically and recreationally.

@David Barnett I use that all the time at work. I went to the mailing address on that website, but the person who lives there had no idea who I was talking about.

@Satyam Mistry hello! I looked up the property info, but the tax info said it was paid the same day the delinquent notice was taped to the door. Not sure if they update the website?

@Joseph Cacciapaglia hello! I had someone skip-trace the address which gave me the number. The guy who picked up didn’t know what I was talking about. I kept it vague “I’d love to talk to you about your property in Warren...” He said he doesn’t own a property in Warren and never has. He sounded sincere, but maybe he thought I was hunting for him? It would be odd because the listed owner on the property is a woman.
