I am looking to house hack in NYC as well but most 2 families go for around 800 in the up and coming neighborhoods of Brooklyn. I did not check out the Bronx where I hear there are still some better deals to be had.

I agree with the analysis above, but I just want to add that if the rental was illegal, as someone above has suggested, then you will be unable to collect any arrears that are owed. Your only options are cash for keys or the eviction process, which won't be happening anytime soon. Please consult with an attorney, because if you mess up the eviction process you will have to start from the beginning.

Good luck.

I was in front of a trial judge in NYC housing court on an eviction matter and he told me that the new law will be strictly construed.

@Marci Stein

So which towns are better with rentals that is not disturbed by the summer visitors?

@Marci Stein

Isn't Sullivan county full of orthodox Jewish summer vacationers, what towns have the rentals for the winter months?

The question now is, with the current situation, how do these strategies and plans change?

@Neil Pradhanang @Vaughn Smith

Thanks for responding.

I am not necessarily looking for cash-flowing properties, I would rather find a property below market value that I can always sell down the line. I can expect rents to rise so I will eventually have more cash flow, but for now, I would prefer below market places in which the rents cover the expenses.

I have noticed that underground oil tanks are prevalent in NJ and also in Secaucus, what are the opinions of people buying properties regarding these tanks even though they were filled?

Hi all,

A colleague of mine, who lives in Secaucus, has been pointing me to some properties in Secaucus which she thinks are good investments. She is not a RE broker but owns some real estate. I am looking for a real estate broker or someone with knowledge in Secaucus whom I can talk to about real estate investing in the area.

Thanks

(I am an attorney and she is a paralegal)

@Maricruz Romero Thank you for starting this topic as I am in the same position and category as you. I will be going down to Philly in a few weeks to check it out. I have a friend living in the area so I hope that will help me.

Have you tried NYC and found nothing or you decided to go straight out of the city because the work on the street is that it's expensive?
