Post: Looking For A Mentor

Hi BP community.  I have been struggling to start my RE investing career. My experience has been investing in passive (syndicated) deals but would like to meet investors that can perhaps mentor and or help me get started and show me the way.  I am having a hard time deciding if I should start with a smaller 4-5 unit property and manage it or move right into syndicating larger properties.  All responses are welcome. I am located in Northern NJ.

Best,

Sean

thanks guys. Appreciate the info. Where specifically in Kansas City? I am not familiar with the city at all. In regards to close to me I can look in Philadelphia, maybe some markets is NJ but overall NJ is high unless you want to go into a bad area. I am probably focusing on Class B-C properties.

Hi....I am a newbie, have not yet invested in any form of real estate on my own. I am trying to educate myself as best as possible so I appreciate any help.  I live in Northern NJ and multi-family apartment buildings are very expensive and returns are low.  I am looking to other states to invest my first deal and find a great management firm there.  Does anybody have any good suggestions of where I should start looking??

Thanks

Hi all,

I have not purchased an investment property yet and rather new to the site. Has anyone invested in Paterson, Irvington or other Northern NJ areas? Looking for a good market that still has a lot of potential and value. Your help is very appreciated.  I am looking into 8-9 units.

Thanks

Sean

Than you everyone who has helped me here.   Robert...what is the best way to find Turnkey Operators? How do I look for them?

Hi,

I am a newbie and trying to find my way through the RE investing forest.  I am having difficulty narrowing down an area to focus on, whether to invest in my home state or go out-of-state etc..  I know I want to focus on buy & hold strategy to build cash flow. I am looking to build strong partnerships along the way. I reside in Northern NJ and I am open to areas with good potential. If I can get some direction I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I am new to BP and searching for an experienced RE investor that specializes in Buy & Hold investing.  I am eager to get my hands dirty and get some experience but I need some guidance and kinda like a mentor or partner.  I do have some capital to invest.  Since NJ/NY is expensive and hard to find deals I am interested in out of state as well with the right person. Please let me know. Thanks
