@Natalie Schanne  "IMO you don’t deserve to Netflix and chill if you haven’t paid rent."

Excellent point. I completely agree with you and I'm using that quote in the future!

@Ryan A. No, they were not playing hardball at all. I think I may have given off the wrong impression in my original post. I never thought my PM was trying to deceive me. On the contrary, we're really happy with them. I just wanted to try and get some clarification and see if anyone else here on BP had run into the scenario.

As it turns out, one of the AC companies that we got quotes from provided the info. That particular company also happened to have the most expensive quote. We did not go with them.

@John Teachout yeah, I can understand a lot of information getting convoluted and not making it over the net correctly sometimes.

@Mike Giallanza all good points. And yeah, we are having additional carbon monoxide alarms installed as well when the HVAC gets installed this week.

@J Scott Yeah, I thought calling as well. Just didn't know where to start. But the permit department seems like a great place to start. Thanks Scott!  BTW–your book on estimating is great! It has helped a lot.

@Will Barnard I agree with you. I had never heard of this being a legal issue. But you never know what janky laws there are in other states. So I thought I'd check in here. Thanks for your reply, Will!

Hello BPrs,

I purchased an older (1950's) SFH in Huntsville, AL. It has gone through rehab and tenants just got placed a few weeks back. Wouldn't ya know it, the heater core part of the HVAC system went out. So the entire unit needs replacing.

I found a company out of Florida that sells refurbished units and ships to Huntsville. However my PM has told me "It is against the law to use any pre-used parts and an HVAC person can lose their license if they do so."

Can anyone elaborate/confirm this?

Thank you.

-Dave

@Brittney Saffell Thank you for the insight! I hadn't considered Meridianville at all but I'll take a gander. :^)

@Maureen McCann excellent web link! Thank you for sharing :^)

@Rhonda Blue Thank you again for your input! I figured the "vibe"  would be different with the commute there, but you never know. After all, traffic is traffic anywhere it is. Good to know it's not that big of a deal there. :^)

@David va  Thanks for the info! We've been on the fence about these outskirt areas. We get leads for them all the time, but I"m not sure how open HSV residents are to commuting that far out. Here in California, if you have a commute that's less than an hour in a larger city your considered lucky and people are thankful. But I wasn't sure how that translates to the HSV market.

@John Moorhouse

If I were your age and looked back a decade before when I was five and thinking–I build great LEGO spaceships, I wan't to drop out of 1st grade to build LEGOs all the time–it would be absurd, right? There really is no difference in that, and what you are pondering right now.

Hope that helps with some perspective.
