I'm confused about you say the faucet is 36" away from the counter.  I can only assume you mean from the corner of the counter top.  Why not stand to the side.  How is a "taller" faucet going to help? And how is the sink being so deep an issue?  I'm just trying to picture the actual problem in my head.

From a contractors point of view, Home Depot is easier to navigate and has more of the things I need.  I think it is they way corporate has things set up. Lowes with the common home owner in mind, and Depot with the contractor in mind.  Their way of being unique in their own way.

I see it as that most home owners are a little more cautious when hiring contractors.  Its their own home, they have an emotional bond to it and they don't deal with these things as often, so they kinda have a list in their head of dos and don'ts.  A landlord on the other hand has no emotional bond so they tend to care more about the bottom dollar.  They also deal with contractors more often so they are not as anxious or nervous when hiring someone.

Touching the pipe is perfectly ok. running through the same hole is iffy, I dont think there is a specific code on that (never had to look that one up) but would depend on the inspector himself.   Take a drill with a spade bit and drill a few holes over lapping one another, kinda make a channel for the wire to move over into.  Simple 5 min fix that will safe a potential setback.

Imo it would depend on what kind of tenants they are. Bad tenants I would let them deal with it.  If they are good tenants then I am sure they are going through enough.  Work with them, and the courts to get him to pay you.

Long story short, I have owned homes most of my life.  I remodel houses and most of my houses in the past have been bought cheap, fixed up and sold.  I went through a divorce 7 years ago and screwed up my credit.  I have been renting since.  My mother and I have inherited a house worth about $80k free and clear. After lawyer fees, 2 years back taxes, and other estate issues we will clear atleast 50k possibly even 60k+.   We would like to invest that money into a house for us, and a rental (or 2).  My mother is retired, I pay a crap load in child support.   How is the best way for us to invest this?  Is it better to buy a rental and then show that as income? Or is it better to get out of the house we are renting and buy us a house first?  I don't or would rather not live in a multi family.  I also want to keep some cash back for repairs, or to make payments if the rental is empty etc.  Someone give me some advise of which direction to go.
