@Axel Meierhoefer the stock market consists of many different aspects, companies, and ideas. Yes, many companies have rallied back and many are overvalued particularly in some of the tech industries, but there are plenty of opportunities to make money if proper research is done. It is similar to real estate in the sense that just because the "market" is a certain way, does not mean there are not opportunities to be had in specific deals.

That is my take anyways. Hope you, and anyone else reading this are off to a good start in the new year!

@Annie Weeks I currently do not. Real Estate is relatively new to me as well. I will be purchasing a multi-family property this year and my partner is currently in negotiations to get a SFH to turn into sober housing. I am also a realtor here in Minneapolis and work with first time home buyers and investors.

@Annie Weeks I am not very familiar with short term rental units, but I will mention that Minneapolis proper has some strict rules regarding rental units and tenant land-lord relationships. If you end up in these areas just be sure to do some research on the different restrictions, also look at the 2040 plan the city has. Good luck on this venture!

Hello James and Elaine!

What an exciting new journey you both are embarking on! Have you done any research on specific areas in the United States you are wanting to invest in? The market is competitive for buyers, but there are deals to be found with a little digging. Would you need to be doing any financing or would they be cash offers?

Hey Brian,

It looks like you have already gotten a ton of useful information and ideas to check out. Another may be to branch out into the stock market if the deals are hard to find. When done with thought and backed with some research, stocks are another tool you can add to your finance toolkit.

The other thought was to branch outside your area. Numerous people have given input on this already so I will just say if you are interested in branching into Minneapolis or Nashville I have some colleagues who may be able to help. Wishing you the best for the new year!

Ryan,

This is awesome and congrats on getting the deal! You seem to have thought through the process and have some good exit strategies which will be important if anything goes to haywire. Keep us all in the loop about the experience and best to you in this new year!

Hey Alia,

It seems other responses have already eluded to the fact that "good" is a relative term. I would suggest looking at your goals for the next five years, specific goals, and then work back from those to map out a plan of action. Writing these down on paper can be very helpful to get a visual of your path to success.

There also is a big difference in action plans between different niches in the real estate market. The process for finding the best house-hack may be quite different than finding the best wholesaling opportunities. It may be a good idea to focus on the house hack and secure that investment first. I am not into wholesaling myself, but if you have any questions about house-hacking opportunities let me know and we can connect. Welcome to the world of real estate!

Hello Bigger Pockets Network!

I am currently living in Minneapolis and will be here for the foreseeable future. I will have all the requirements done for my Real Estate license by the beginning of December and want to begin deciding how to go about choosing a brokerage to work under. Some goals I have for the future are buying a multi-family unit to house hack as a first investment, and to have my brokers license within five years. Long-term I will continue investment opportunities in real estate as well as other avenues. I am attending college majoring in Finance and will be getting a minor in Economics. I of course want to make money as an agent in the interim, but long-term have bigger plans than staying a salesperson.

I am motivated, driven, and extremely hard-working. Income is of course important, however I think experience that can be applied towards my long-term goals is of even more importance. Are there any pointers you all would have for starting out? What should I be looking for in a brokerage and what should I watch out for? When should I begin the process of reaching out to different brokerages? Also, I would love to meet people that have had success in investment opportunities in the Minneapolis area. I would be up for trading my work time for hands on experience or a shadowing opportunity. Any input would be appreciated. Happy Veterans Day!

Jordan,

Ideally yes. I think that is going to be my best move, although I am still exploring the best option for this first venture. I am all for taking action to achieve goals so I have been doing a lot of research and reading on House Hacking. It seems to be the front-runner of options for me. It is great to connect with you and thanks for the welcome!
