This has been a great thread so far. I am interested in multi families in the Southern US. Does anyone have any markets from Georgia to New Mexico that have done well? My budget is $220k

I feel it is easier to market for a certain niche in Houston since it is such a huge city. I'd recommend you look around the Medical Center, Galleria, and midtown too. It really depends on your budget and target tenants.

Thanks for your response.  What made you decide to stop doing AirBNB?

As per STR, there are few people in this forum who does it currently in some of the areas around Downtown houston. I heard few actually rent the places and AirBNB them as well and doing good. You won't do good if it's just one unit. It has to be multiple units and right location. Do the analysis using Airbnb data and figure it out before taking the leap.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking to begin with an STR, then move to multi family units in a buy and hold strategy. I figured it would be best to start small. I may do single family homes to start as well. Just want to get my feet wet, then expand.

Hello All,

I am finally taking the jump and beginning my Real Estate Investing career.  I am looking to begin with a townhouse within the Houston 610 loop and use it as an AirBNB.  My thought it to begin with this option, and then move to multi-family units within the year.

Has anyone started by using this strategy? Are there any areas that are particularly best for STR? I am looking at EaDo, The Heights, South Main, and NRG areas.

Thanks for you help.
