 @Account Closed we could do a meetup in September (I'm sure many people are trying to get a last chance vacation in August).  It would be great to reconnect with locals!

@Michael Sherwood,
thanks again for taking time out of your personal trip to meet with us. I really liked what you shared about your business, and the tasty tidbits you had about Canadians doing business in the Buffalo area.

@Dave Vogt,
point very well made with your "invest in Canada" post.
Can you make it to the meetup in Vaughan this Sunday at 2?

From the article you mentioned:
"Liability for US income tax on worldwide income."

OOOoooo. That doesn't apply to me, but oooooo, I feel the pain for anyone to whom this may apply.

4 hour work week. Stupid, aweful book. Aweful. I had a nice, 10 year retirement plan and now I'm looking at this winter (-30C today) and saying "this is my last winter in Canada". I currently have zero passive income, so Ferris getting me all fired up is not helpful. Signed up for a "retire overseas" newsletter and keep getting emails with beautiful photos of Belize. Not helpful.

@Victor Parag and all,
I've reached out to Mike Sherwood this morning to check on his situation (we tentatively scheduled this to coincide with his trip to T.O.). I will update by end of day.

@Daniel Ringwald, that's a different approach. Most of us in Ontario are trying to get down south and fighting the obstacles there. We don't have loan programs similar to homepath/fha here. There seems to be little wholesaling going on here because even foreclosures sell for below market value. But other local experts will give better pointers for this question.
Welcome to BP. (It's minus 31 in windchill today in T.O. Damn!)

@Michael Sherwood,
we are getting closer to the date, so let's work on finalizing details. Is Sunday earlier in the day or Saturday afternoon around 4 pm (Weekend of Feb 2) still good for you? Do you have a preference? During previous discussion Vaughan was suggested as a meeting place (e.g.Panera at 16 Famous Avenue, Vaughan, ON L4L 9M3 or other place in this area). Would this work for you?

Everyone,
If you have preferences for Saturday or Sunday, let us know. Please feel free to suggest alternate locations for meetup - office or coffee shop. Everyone's ideas and suggestions are welcome.
Also comment on what you'd like to get out of this meetup. Since this is our first meetup, I imagine that we won't really have time for some kind of seminar, we would just like to meet each other in person, find out what everyone is doing, their business ideas, etc. What do you think?

Awesome discussion. One thing that hasn't been covered:
Pricing for RE is set differently. Some types of RE (commercial or multis) are priced based on Cap rate. That means that the prevailing rate of return in an area is how the price is determined.
