Hi @Goncalo Martins! If you're in Portugal it is very unusual for people here to stage their house, this means yours should really pop out among the rest, as @Jeremy Taggart said, it might not help you get a higher price but should help sell it faster for sure.

Hi @Emilie Berger, I would recommend talking to a Portuguese mortgage broker about the loan, as far as I know, it is possible, don't know if it's easy but conditions and ease will differ, probably by a significant amount, from bank to bank. About the market, I live in Lisbon and don't really know how the market is in those areas.

Either way would love to meet, let me know when you are going to be here and in which part of the country.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Hi @Bernardo Bento and @Joao Guimaraes, I'm from Portugal too but from Lisbon.

Actually, I was at a networking event yesterday and met some Portuguese mortgage brokers, I asked specifically about refinancing in order to do the brrrr strategy, they said it's tricky because of the appraisal (we already know that) but that it is totally possible here. For what I could get it is worth working with someone like that and it is a free service for us, they get a commission from the bank for bringing them the client, attention I just met them yesterday and didn't have the opportunity to get all the details, but that's the overall picture I got.

Hope this helps and I'm here to help however I can or meetup or something!

Hi @Lorenzo Peeters,

I'm a Portuguese, born and raised in Lisbon and I'm still here now. I second what @Rui Dias Costa and @Nuno Leitao said, 10km from Lisbon centre can be in an awesome location or not so much and, as @Bob Langworthy said, have a property manager look at the property before you buy it if you want to be sure, especially if you're not going to be here. Just keep in mind that it might take a little effort to find a good property manager if you are thinking about doing a typical 1 one year lease or something like that, however, if you are thinking about short-term rental you have a bunch of management companies with different commissions and the option of a guaranteed rent but it goes back to location when it comes to rent potential.

Good luck and if you need any help with the language or boots on the ground reach out, right now I just take any chance to be around investors and deals.

Best regards,

Diogo Cândido

@Thomas Youngman thank for that detailed report of your experience thus far!

I'm Portuguese, live in Lisbon, new at BP and am a complete noob at this. I consume a lot of REI content online but haven't taken action yet, I'm now looking to understand how RE works in Portugal and how I can make money from it.

I'm available if you guys want to do another meetup and I'm eager to learn!

Regards,

Diogo
